Eye Conditions We Diagnose & Treat
Dr. Alexander Bonakdar and our clinical team diagnose and manage over 300 eye conditions, ranging from common refractive errors to rare and complex diseases of the cornea, retina, and optic nerve. With more than 35 years of experience in optometric practice, Dr. Bonakdar has treated tens of thousands of patients throughout Orange County and has developed deep expertise in conditions that many general eye care providers refer out.
Our practice covers a wide range of condition categories. Corneal conditions such as keratoconus, corneal dystrophies, and recurrent erosion syndrome are among our core specialties. We manage retinal diseases including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal detachment through early detection and coordinated specialist care. Our glaucoma program monitors and manages all forms of glaucoma, from primary open-angle to angle-closure variants, using visual field testing and OCT nerve fiber analysis.
We also treat eyelid and external conditions such as blepharitis, meibomian gland dysfunction, chalazion, and ocular rosacea. For children, we evaluate and manage pediatric eye conditions including amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (eye misalignment), and progressive myopia. Refractive conditions like myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia are addressed with both corrective lenses and management strategies.
Expert diagnosis is the foundation of effective treatment. Many eye conditions share similar symptoms but require very different approaches. Our office is equipped with advanced diagnostic technology including corneal topography for mapping corneal shape, optical coherence tomography (OCT) for cross-sectional imaging of the retina and optic nerve, automated visual field testing for detecting peripheral vision loss, and digital retinal photography for documenting and tracking changes over time.
Knowing when to seek care is important. Emergency symptoms that require same-day evaluation include sudden vision loss, flashes of light with new floaters, eye pain with redness, chemical exposure, and any trauma to the eye. Non-emergency symptoms that still warrant a prompt appointment include gradually blurring vision, persistent dryness or irritation, frequent headaches related to vision, and difficulty seeing at night or while driving.
If you are experiencing any eye-related symptoms or have been diagnosed with a condition and are seeking a second opinion, we encourage you to schedule a comprehensive evaluation. Use the search tool above to learn more about your specific condition, or call our office at (714) 558-1182 to book an appointment.
