About Scleral Lenses
Scleral contact lenses are large-diameter gas permeable lenses that vault over the entire cornea, providing exceptional vision and comfort for patients who cannot achieve good results with traditional contact lenses or glasses.
At EyeCare Center of Orange County, Dr. Alexander Bonakdar has over 35 years of experience fitting scleral lenses for keratoconus, post-surgical complications, severe dry eye, and other complex corneal conditions. We utilize the latest lens technologies including Multifocal, Toric, and HOA (Higher Order Aberration) correction to provide not just fit, but superior visual quality. Our advanced fitting technology and extensive lens inventory allow us to achieve optimal fits for even the most challenging cases.
Doctor's Insight: Common Questions
Direct Answers from Dr. Bonakdar

Lost or Broken Scleral Lens? Same-Day Help Available
Emergency scleral lens dispensing for keratoconus patients
If you have keratoconus and your scleral lens is lost, cracked, or damaged, you may be functionally unable to see. We understand the urgency. Dr. Alexander Bonakdar keeps diagnostic and loaner scleral lenses on-site and can often restore functional vision the same day while your custom replacement is being fabricated.
Emergency Scleral Lens Pricing
- $250 flat fee + insurance (during office hours)
- $500 flat fee + insurance (after-hours care)
If your lens is cracked but still wearable, stop wearing it — a damaged edge can scratch the cornea and turn a lens replacement into a corneal injury.
