Essilor Stellest™ Lenses FAQs for Orange County Patients
How much do Stellest lenses cost?+
Stellest lenses start at $450 per pair. Your child will need checkups every 6 months to monitor progression and update the prescription as their eyes change. Vision insurance may cover a portion of the frame and exam, and FSA/HSA funds are eligible.
Are Stellest lenses FDA-approved?+
Stellest received FDA De Novo marketing authorization on September 25, 2025 — making it the first spectacle lens authorized by the FDA for slowing myopia progression. It is authorized for children ages 6 to 12 at the start of treatment.
How do Stellest lenses work?+
They use H.A.L.T. technology — 1,021 invisible aspherical lenslets arranged in concentric rings that create a volume of myopic defocus in front of the retina. This signal slows the elongation of the eye while providing sharp central vision through the standard prescription zone.
How effective are Stellest lenses?+
The US pivotal trial (FIN-3101, 9 sites) showed 71% less myopia progression and 53% less axial elongation over 2 years compared to standard single-vision lenses. The lenses must be worn at least 12 hours per day for full benefit.
Stellest vs MiSight — which is better for my child?+
Stellest is a spectacle lens (glasses) authorized for ages 6-12 at initiation. MiSight is a daily disposable contact lens approved for ages 8-12. Younger children (6-7) who are not ready for contacts are ideal Stellest candidates. Older children who prefer contacts may prefer MiSight. Both have strong clinical evidence — the choice depends on your child's age, maturity, and preference.
