Hoag Alternative — FAQs
Do I need a referral to book with EyeCare Center of Orange County?
Most patients don't need a referral — PPO and many other plans let you book directly with our office. If you have an HMO plan that requires one for specialist visits, let us know when you call and we can advise on the process.
What insurance do you accept?
We accept most major vision plans (VSP, EyeMed, and others) and medical insurance for medically necessary visits. We verify your specific benefits before your appointment. We do not accept Medi-Cal.
How fast can I be seen?
We offer same-week appointments for most visits, and can often accommodate urgent concerns within 1-2 business days by calling our office directly.
Do you replace a hospital specialist like Hoag?
For most medical optometry needs — dry eye, keratoconus, myopia management, headache/eye-strain evaluation, and routine or urgent eye care — yes, we can be your primary eye care provider. For complex surgical or retina care, we co-manage with and refer to hospital-based specialists, including at Hoag.
