Imaging Systems

Advanced Imaging Technology

High-resolution imaging allows us to see structures of the eye in unprecedented detail.

Retinal & Optic Nerve OCT

Non-contact optical imaging that creates detailed cross-sections of the retina, macula, and optic nerve. Essential for detecting and monitoring:

  • Macular degeneration
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Glaucoma progression
  • Macular edema
  • Unexplained central vision changes

Anterior Segment OCT

Non-contact cross-sectional imaging of the front of the eye. It complements Pentacam and UBM by documenting:

  • Cornea and anterior chamber
  • Visible drainage-angle anatomy
  • Iris configuration
  • Post-surgical structures
  • Serial structural change

Pentacam Corneal Tomography

Rotating Scheimpflug camera that captures a complete 3D model of the anterior segment, measuring:

  • Corneal thickness mapping
  • Anterior and posterior curvature
  • Keratoconus detection
  • Post-LASIK evaluation
  • Cataract density analysis

OCULUS Keratograph 5M Corneal Topography

Placido-ring topography maps the front corneal surface and supports advanced ocular-surface analysis. Critical for:

  • Contact lens fitting
  • Astigmatism measurement
  • Corneal irregularities
  • Ortho-K evaluation
  • Pre-surgical planning

B-Scan Ultrasound

Diagnostic ultrasound that images the internal structures of the eye when direct visualization is not possible:

  • Dense cataracts
  • Vitreous hemorrhage
  • Retinal detachment
  • Intraocular tumors
  • Post-trauma evaluation

Ultrasound Biomicroscopy (UBM)

High-frequency ultrasound provides detailed imaging of anterior structures that may be hidden behind the iris. Used for:

  • Narrow-angle glaucoma evaluation
  • Iris and ciliary-body lesions
  • Cysts behind the iris
  • Lens implant positioning
  • Anterior-segment trauma
OCULUS Keratograph 5M

Keratograph 5M Testing Capabilities

The Keratograph 5M platform combines corneal topography, dry-eye analysis, contact-lens fitting tools, and high-resolution imaging. Some analyses require optional software modules, so availability depends on the office configuration. Your doctor selects and confirms the tests that answer your specific clinical question.

Corneal Topography & Keratometry

Placido-ring measurements map the curvature and refractive power of the front corneal surface and provide keratometric values used for corneal assessment and contact-lens fitting.

Topographic Keratoconus Screening

Analyzes corneal-shape patterns and indices that may flag keratoconus or other corneal irregularity for closer clinical evaluation.

Fourier Analysis

Separates the corneal power map into spherical power, decentration, regular astigmatism, and irregular components to help explain image distortion.

Zernike Analysis

Evaluates optical aberration patterns from the front corneal surface, including higher-order irregularities that may affect visual quality.

Contact-Lens Fitting & Fluorescein Simulation

Uses the corneal map and lens database to support lens selection and simulate a fluorescein pattern before comparing it with the actual fit.

NIKBUT — Non-Invasive Tear Break-Up Time

Automatically measures how long the tear film remains stable after a blink without placing fluorescein dye in the eye.

Tear Meniscus Height

Measures the height of the tear reservoir along the lower eyelid to help assess tear quantity.

Lipid-Layer Evaluation

Records the tear film’s surface interference pattern to evaluate the distribution and appearance of its protective oil layer.

Tear-Film Dynamics

Documents movement of visible particles within the tear film after blinking, providing information about tear-film behavior and viscosity.

Meibo-Scan Meibography

Infrared imaging shows the structure of the meibomian glands in the upper and lower lids and documents gland shortening or dropout.

R-Scan Redness Grading

Detects conjunctival vessels and objectively grades bulbar and limbal redness in nasal and temporal regions.

Fluorescein Imaging

Blue-light photography and video document fluorescein patterns used to assess ocular-surface staining, tear-film break-up, and contact-lens fit.

Pupillometry

Measures pupil size under different illumination conditions and can compare the two eyes for asymmetry.

External Eye Photography & Video

High-resolution images and video document visible corneal, conjunctival, eyelid, and contact-lens findings for comparison over time.

Near-Portion Height Measurement

Measures the position of the near zone or segment when evaluating multifocal and specialty contact-lens designs.

Eyelid-Angle Measurement

Uses the camera image and measurement tools to document eyelid orientation and position when clinically relevant.

LIPCOF Documentation (Slit-Lamp Assessment)

Lid-parallel conjunctival folds are assessed separately at the slit lamp, then the clinician manually enters the grade into the Keratograph/JENVIS dry-eye report; the Keratograph does not acquire this finding.

JENVIS Pro Dry-Eye Screening & Report

Combines symptom-questionnaire results with tear meniscus height, NIKBUT, redness, and other selected findings in an organized dry-eye report.

Functional Testing

Functional & Diagnostic Testing

Beyond imaging, we assess how well your eyes function and respond.

ERG (Electroretinography)

Measures the electrical response of retinal cells to light stimulation. Used to diagnose:

  • Retinitis pigmentosa
  • Cone dystrophy
  • Night blindness
  • Retinal toxicity

Rabin Cone Contrast Color Test

Quantitatively measures red-, green-, and blue-cone contrast sensitivity rather than giving only a pass/fail screening result.

  • Color-vision quantification
  • Aviation and occupational evaluations
  • Subtle or acquired color loss
  • Documented cone-specific scores

Visual Field Testing

Maps your peripheral vision to detect blind spots and vision loss patterns. Essential for:

  • Glaucoma monitoring
  • Neurological conditions
  • Stroke effects
  • Brain tumors

Cataract Evaluation

Advanced analysis system that grades cataract density and type, helping determine:

  • Surgery timing
  • Visual impact
  • Treatment options
  • Lens selection
Dry Eye Diagnostics

Dry Eye & Ocular Surface Testing

Comprehensive evaluation of tear film quality and meibomian gland health.

Meibography

Infrared imaging of the meibomian glands reveals gland structure and health. This helps diagnose meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), a leading cause of dry eye.

  • Visualize gland dropout
  • Assess gland structure
  • Track treatment progress
  • Guide therapy decisions

IPL Treatment

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy treats meibomian gland dysfunction and inflammatory dry eye by targeting abnormal blood vessels and reducing inflammation.

  • FDA-authorized (De Novo, DEN200028) for dry eye due to MGD
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Improves gland function
  • Long-lasting relief
In-Office Testing

Point-of-Care Diagnostics

Rapid in-office tests provide immediate answers for targeted treatment.

InflammaDry (MMP-9 Test)

Results in 10 minutes

Detects elevated MMP-9 levels, a marker of ocular surface inflammation. Results in 10 minutes help determine if anti-inflammatory treatment is needed for dry eye.

AdenoPlus (Adenovirus Test)

Results in 10 minutes

Identifies adenoviral conjunctivitis (pink eye) with high accuracy. Helps distinguish viral from bacterial infection for appropriate treatment.

Why Point-of-Care Testing Matters

Traditional lab tests can take days. Our in-office diagnostics provide immediate results, allowing us to start the right treatment during your visit. No waiting, no follow-up calls — just accurate diagnosis and prompt care.
