DUSN is a sight-threatening condition caused by a parasitic worm (nematode) that migrates beneath the retina, causing progressive inflammation and vision loss in one eye. Without treatment, DUSN leads to severe, permanent vision loss including optic atrophy and retinal degeneration. Early identification and laser destruction of the worm can halt disease progression. Patients may notice gradual vision loss, floaters, and a central or paracentral blind spot developing over weeks to months.
